Background and Definition
Mr.
Aris Setiawan uses Expert Method to teach his students in the second grade of
senior high school 2 Trenggalek. He found his method when he studied in
Philippine. He develops this method by himself and applies it in the class. He
explains that this method is very rare to be applied in Indonesia, especially
in Trenggalek, and maybe he is one and only teacher who uses this method. Those
are the reasons why he chooses to teach by using this method. Therefore, he
believes that this method will run well and be accepted by his students.
According to
Wikipedia, an expert is somebody who obtains results that are vastly
superior to those obtained by the majority of the population. From the
explanation from Wikipedia, Mr. Aris wants to produce some students who can be
the experts for their friends in the class. Expert is a name for student who is
able to explain the material clearly better than others in the class. So,
expert method is a method which involves student to act like an expert and to master
the material which is given to them. This method gives student the right as the
teacher to explain the material. It does not mean that teacher allows the
student (expert) to look for and explain the material as they will. The teacher
still guides them such as giving them briefing before they present their
material and giving evaluation in the end of the presentation.
