My Favorite Movie Character: L Lawliet

Introductory Paragraph
(Thesis)
|
Who
is your favorite character from the movie that you watch? If the question is
given to me, I would like to say that he is L Lawliet. L is a character in
the movie series Death Note which
is directed by Hideo Nakata and starred by Kenichi Matsuyama. L is cute for
me. That’s why some of my friends probably think that I’m insane. He is
different from the other main characters in some movies. His appearance,
his odd habits, his intelligence, and his confidence are all reasons why I
love this detective.

First Supporting Paragraph
|
First of all, let me describe how
his appearance is. L is about 5'8'' and weighs only 110 pounds. It means that
he is very slim. He has uncombed long black hair and dark eyes. His face is
pale with permanent dark circle under his eyes, a result of him being an
insomniac. His expression is mostly blank because he keeps his poker face.
His skin is white because he never goes out from his room; he works secretly
without showing his face in public. He always wears blue jean trousers and
white long-sleeved shirt. He never changes his outfit so it makes me think
that he has many pairs of that same type of jeans and shirt. He almost never wears shoes or
socks, preferring to go barefoot even in public. For me, L is attractive in
his unorthodox way.

Supporting Paragraph
|
Second, he has several quirks or
odd habits. L doesn’t sit. I never know him sit properly. He has an unusual
way of sitting, with both of his feet on the chair. He claims that sitting
like this improves his detective skills. He also eats sweet foods (like
desserts, candies, and fruits). It seems that he never eats normal foods like
pizza or rice. I wonder how he is still so skinny while he likes eating
sugar. He holds things by using only his thumb and his forefinger. He is
often seen arranging objects around him while thinking about something. These
odd habits include biting fingernails, slouching while walking, chewing with
an open mouth, and talking with his mouth full.

Third Supporting Paragraph
|
Apart from his oddity, he has
high IQ. As I said before, he is a detective. He can solve many cases easily
in this movie. He doesn’t speak too much but when he reveals the proof of a
criminal case, his wildest theories are proven to be completely correct. He
also has ability to keep working on case no matter how impossible it is. He
refuses to change his theories for anyone; he definitely knows the right and
the wrong thing. I can say that he is stubborn.

Fourth Supporting Paragraph
|
L doesn’t show much emotion. It
makes people think how this person lives. He refuses to really interact with
the world outside. In this movie, he goes out to meet Light (the other
character) once, he carries on his oddities and quirks and he doesn’t care
about people who find him weird. Is he just good at hiding the fact that he
is weird? Doesn’t he like being around people? Does he ever think that he can
be like the others? I keep wondering about that. I like that he doesn’t
attempt to change who he is for the other people.

Concluding Paragraph
|
He is definitely my favorite male
character. He keeps forcing me to think, to psychoanalyze, and to ask
questions about him. “No matter how gifted, you alone can’t change the world”
is my favorite quote in this movie. Perhaps he is right that he can’t change
the world alone but he really changes mine.
